Joe Camp launched a three-month nationwide search to find the new Benji in a shelter. The original Benji came from a shelter and spawned more than a million adoptions according the American Humane, and Joe felt it was a worthwhile mission to do even more this time around.

Shelter and Adoption Talks & Seminars

Joe Camp is a passionate speaker, author of The Soul of a Horse: Life Lessons from the Herd published in May 2008 by Random House's Harmony Books and in November of 2008 was in its third printing. He has also written three published novels, a non-fiction inspirational book, a dog-training book, several children’s books, and the writer-director-producer of seven motion pictures (including all of the Benji movies), four television specials and a children’s television series.

Joe and Benji have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for shelters and rescue groups across the country and together they are media magnets that can bring out the donors, raise adoption levels, and raise public awareness for your shelter, your adoption programs, and your fund raisers.

Joe speaks with passion about homeless animals, the need for your operation to be well-funded, and the miraculous results that can be generated when shelters market and promote their homeless animals like a business. Joe knows that dreams can in fact come true when you make a few simple choices and stick to them because, with no help from Hollywood, he took Benji from a mere notion of an idea to a worldwide phenomenon, against the advice of the experts, the naysayers, and all the odds. He will inspire you, your staff, your donors, and your board to reach for heights never before believed possible.

In the fall of 2001, Joe launched a search that took him from one end of the country to the other and consumed three and a half months, hoping to find the new Benji in a shelter. Everywhere he went, Joe dragged media out to the shelters, and the publicity that followed always lead to a rise in adoption levels. Local and network television, radio and newspapers covered the search, as did ABC's Primetime Thursday and Good Morning America, generating more than one billion media exposures for the efforts of shelters and rescue groups all across the nation. The new Benji's home shelter in Gulfport, Mississippi, had the largest month in their history the month after Benji was adopted and, in fact, completely emptied the shelter.

Shelter budgets are usually tight, but often there are local companies that will sponsor Joe and Benji’s appearance fee and expenses because the media attraction, Joe’s passion for the animals, and his communication skills will result in money being raised and animals being adopted. Since her adoption, Benji and Joe have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for shelters and adoption groups all across the country by participating in fund raisers and benefits.

Joe will work with you to tailor his presentation to best suit your needs, and when he and Benji appear at shelter-fund raisers, Joe provides 10 signed copies of his inspirational book Benji & Me,10 signed copies of The Benji Method Dog Traing Book and 5 copies of Benji’s new movie Benji Off the Leash on DVD. These items can be used however they will best benefit your effort: to auction, sell, or give as gifts to special donors.
